How to Install IPTV on a Firestick

Installing an IPTV player on a Firestick takes about five minutes and needs nothing but the remote in your hand. No computer, no USB cable, no sideloading software. This guide covers the whole process, then deals with the three errors that account for most of the problems people actually run into.

What you need before you start

Two things, and that is genuinely all:

• An Amazon Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K, Stick 4K Max, or Fire TV Cube
• Your IPTV credentials — a username, a password, and a server URL, sent to you by email

If you do not have credentials yet, start with a free trial. You will have them within minutes and can follow the rest of this guide immediately.

Step 1 — Install the Downloader app

From the Fire TV home screen, use the search icon (the magnifying glass, top left) and type Downloader. It is a free app with an orange icon, published by AFTVnews. Select it and choose Install.

Downloader is what lets you install applications that are not in Amazon's own store. It is the standard tool for this and has been on the Appstore for years.

Step 2 — Allow apps from unknown sources

The Firestick blocks installations from outside the Appstore by default. You need to make an exception for Downloader:

1. Go to Settings (the gear icon on the home row)
2. Open My Fire TV
3. Select Developer Options
4. Turn on Install Unknown Apps
5. Find Downloader in the list and switch it to ON

If you cannot see Developer Options at all, go to My Fire TV → About and click on the device name seven times. It sounds absurd, and it works — the menu appears.

Step 3 — Enter the download code

Open Downloader. In the URL box on the Home tab, enter your provider's code. For EarthWebTV that is:

Press Go. The file downloads — it is small, so this takes seconds on any reasonable connection. When it finishes, an installer screen appears. Choose Install, wait for the confirmation, then choose Done.

Downloader will offer to delete the downloaded file. Say yes. Firestick storage is tight, particularly on the older sticks, and there is no reason to keep it.

Step 4 — Sign in

Open the app you have just installed. On the first run it will ask you to accept the terms, then offer you a choice of login methods. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API rather than the M3U option.

This matters. Xtream Codes gives you the full electronic programme guide and properly sorted categories. An M3U playlist gives you a flat list of channels and usually no guide at all. Same subscription, dramatically worse experience.

Enter any name you like for the profile, then your username, password, and server URL exactly as they appear in your welcome email. Give it a minute to sync — the first load pulls down the entire channel list and guide, and on a busy evening this is not instant.

The three things that actually go wrong

"Invalid credentials"

Nine times out of ten this is a typing error made with a remote control. The usual suspects are a zero read as a capital O, and a capital I read as a lowercase L. Do not retype the details — copy and paste them from the email if you can, or check each character individually.

The channel list is empty

The app has connected but has not finished syncing. Force-close it completely (hold the home button, select Apps, and close it from there) and reopen. If the list is still empty after a second attempt, your line may not have activated yet — check with support.

Everything buffers

If every channel buffers, the problem is your connection or your hardware, not the service. Try an ethernet adapter rather than wifi — a Firestick tucked behind a large metal television is in about the worst possible position to receive a wifi signal. If only one channel buffers, that is a source problem and worth reporting.
